Stepping on Roses is kind of a guilty pleasure for me, because honestly the plot isn't very good and the characters are more than a little silly. But I can't help but love it. I love Sumi and how clever she can be even when she's stupid. Soichiro has become a pretty cool guy, and even Sumi's brother isn't so bad. ( )

Only 4 stars, because I felt like Sumi gave into Nozomu too easily. I know Soichiro was sick, but he didn't seem to be at death's door, he recovered pretty quickly. Good, but not perfect. ( )

When Sumi asks Nozomu to stop buying the land where she and Soichiro live, he agrees, but only if she will leave Soichiro and become his wife instead, forcing Sumi to decide between living in poverty with Soichiro or in luxury with Nozomu.
