Loading... I, Zombieby Hugh Howey
None. Not bad. Easy read if you don't find a fair amount of gore detail. Good characters, but I found some inconsistencies. Still, it leaves you wanting some more, I think. And, while I love zombies, I think the genre is tired. This attempts to jump start it in a big way, and does a good job of it. I just think I might be over the whole idea. ( )First, the gore is off-putting. It's REALLY gory and graphic. But that's the only reason I took away a star. I can't recommend this to a lot of my friends who would prefer not to wade through the hip-deep viscera in order to get to the story, and that's a shame. Because the story is really good, the writing is excellent, the characters well developed. The premise is intriguing, and kept me reading despite the disgust. I felt empathy with many of the characters, and was riveted - so much so that I finished the book in only a few hours. I understand why he hit the gross-button so hard, but I wish there had been a way to reduce the volume, so to speak - the book goes to 11 the whole time. Still, if you can get past the gore (I warned you!) this is an excellent read, and I highly recommend it. I loved the Wool series, and Howey's voice is just as strong here. --- I read and enjoyed a lot Wool of Hugh Howey, however not all his novels are good as that one. I, zombie deals with the zombie theme changing the point of view of narration, for this reason each chapter contains thoughts, observation and memories of the various zombie characters. I did not like this book for different reasons: - the narration is not engaging and the few action scenes are quite boring; - chapters contains lots of reflections of the characters that partly are not zombie related and in the end boring; - the characterization is not very good, in the end it's like there is only one of two voices talking despite the huge number of characters involved (in this sense a better work was done in [b:World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War|8908|World War Z An Oral History of the Zombie War|Max Brooks|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1320398267s/8908.jpg|817] where characters behave with respect to the contest where they live). no reviews | add a review
