“Have stakes will travel” is Jane’s motto. She’s been hired by one of Leo’s frenemies to take out some rogue vamps in his territories. She and Leo are still on the outs because of the events of book five (I’m totally #TeamJane on this one.) Beast has gone silent and sulky, which isn’t good as the rogue vamps Jane finds are some sort of new variation that makes them hard to kill. As usual, Faith Hunter’s books shine in the world-building, with lots of details on military specifics, fighting, and supernatural politics.

Her two new boy band members team up with her in this one, and while they’re still growing on me, it’s definitely a different dynamic. I kind of missed Bruiser and Rick and all that sexual tension, although those two guys dug their own holes in the last two books… have to see if they dig themselves out… was glad to see them show up halfway through! , I did like the addition of a contact of Jane’s from her days in the children’s home. That was interesting. As usual, things get super complicated and political, and Jane can never go anywhere without finding herself in vampire/witch/other trouble. This had a really cool ending!

Please excuse typos/name misspellings. Entered on screen reader.

These books suffer from some pretty glaring flaws. The writers knowledge of the foster care system, the casual mentions of beatings in the "Non-Denominational Christian Children's Home" and the whitewashing of Jane's race. These, combined with the occasional page long sermons disguised as Jane's religious turmoil, make for pretty irritating reading. It's obviously a book written from a place of privilege.
I find the fact that Jane is a happy product of this "Non-Denominational Christian Children's Home" (and yes, it's always referenced in full) extremely unlikely. I was hoping it was just a character development arc, but sadly by book six I have to give it up. ( )

Sort of a series-plot holder, but still fun fluff. ( )

Jane muses a lot about several men her beast wants to mate, but no actual activities, Action packed, endearing as she struggles through awkward social situations while trying to stay alive and save those she cares about. Heavy on ammo, a dash of humor. Definite recommend

I loved it but darn, when is Jane or Beast going to get some satisfaction! ( )
