Reconquérir les rues. Un ouvrage qui devrait être sur la table de chevet du ministre de la ville et de ses conseillers, des maires, des urbanistes, des architectes, des responsables d'offices de HLM. Il cherche à montrer comment nous pouvons insuffler ou rendre de la vie à nos rues mortes, stérilisées ou rendues inhospitalières. Il donne des exemples, parfois anciens, comme l'usoir lorrain ou le stoep néerlandais, et des contre-exemples concrets. De nombreuses idées intéressantes sont développées dans ce livre, dont deux que Nicolas Soulier nomme : la courée et le frontage. Ce sont deux manières, qui remettent en cause nos habitudes et nos schémas intellectuels, de ménager un espace de transition entre espace privé et domaine public, espace ouvert à l'appropriation des riverains.
