I went into this knowing how it was going to end. I mean, didn't we all, really? We knew it wasn't going to turn out the way we wanted. I had resigned myself to that before the book even came out. What I didn't expect was the total...blah-ness of the whole book. After waiting all this time for the final book, I felt very let -down by the whole thing. I can't even pinpoint a reason. I have read some of Harris's other work outside of the Sookie series, and this book was nowhere near her best work. Despite the action and deaths in this book, I felt as if nothing actually happened. And she's putting out another book in the fall (I think) that actually wraps up the Sookie universe, so I don't even know what the point of this book was.

If you've read the whole series, go borrow this one from the library. You may as well see what everyone is talking about. Just don't spend your money. ( )

I loved the ending. I'm not sure why people wanted it to end differently. ( )

can't believe I was winning for 10 books straight only to experience the biggest L of my entire life with this endgame. I should've quit after book 11

This was a good ending to the series. My book had a section of series FAQs at the end, and I made the mistake of reading it before reading the book...if you don't mind spoilers, then go ahead and do that. I, however, was not overly excited about finding out who Sookie ends up with. That's kind of my own fault, this is just a warning for people out there.

Anyway...the story itself was pretty fast paced for a Sookie book. Lots of loose ends were tied up and some things came full circle. If you're reading this review, you've probably already started reading the series or have seen the show, so go ahead, read this one, see what happens. ( )

Epigraph
Dedication
This book is dedicated to the loyal readers who have followed this series from beginning to end.  Some of you were reading the books before True Blood, and some came after, but you were all amazingly generous with your ideas, speculations, and votes on Sookie's future.  There isn't a way I could make  all of you happy with the ending of the series, so I've followed my own plan, the one I've had all along, and I hope you agree that it's fitting.
First words
JANUARY
The New Orleans businessman, whose gray hair put him in his fifties, was accompanied by his much younger and taller bodyguard/chauffeur on the night he met the devil in the French Quarter.  The meeting was by prearrangement.
