The Deception of Livvy Higgs was simply fantastic. It might be the best book I've read so far this year. Donna Morrissey's prose was haunting and lyrical. I didn't know that a story about an old lady could have me so captivated. ( )

Maybe this one was just too deep for me, but though it had Morrissey's usual excellent writing and I thought at first I would love it, I found the dénouement very unsatisfying and the promising characters mired in seemingly endless layers of deceptions. ( )

One of the best books I have read in awhile. It warmed my heart while keeping me wondering how Livvy's past and present met. I loved the way the story was unraveled, and even though it jumped from present to past it was never confusing, it always flowed smoothly. I don't reread many books, but I will definitely pick this up again. It's a good cold weather book too. ( )

I was not a big fan of this book or the writing style. I didn't like the characters and never felt a connection to any of them. I frequently thought, "just get on with it already!" The last quarter of the book did pick up somewhat, but I still felt as though I had to force myself to continue. I've read several reviews praising the voices in the story and the descriptive phrasing. Unfortunately, if this had not been an Evergreen nomination, I would have put it down long ago. Just not my type of book. ( )
