Wendigos didn't take humans as life mates but Alex began to learn Myra was no ordinary human. She had a gift with horses, evident in the rescue of a horse he spent years finding. While his own clan is ready to accept Myra into the fold, he must struggle with his own fears of the past. And most of all the animal within. We have to blend in, not draw attention. " he said and then what came out of his mouth next shocked her. " Kiss me." " Like hell I will. " she snapped angrily. He leaned into her, the smooth skin of his cheek brushing hers as he whispered in her ear. " I know this is all hard for you to understand. I'm still trying to grasp a handle on it myself but I want to assure you I mean you know harm. I'm just trying to keep you safe. " " Oh and you think to do that by swapping spit? You don't know me. How do you know if I don't have some kind of disease? " He moved his head back so he could look into her eyes. She was quick to notice that his eyes, blue as the summer sky, seemed to be holding a hint of humor in them. " And do you? " " Not that I know of but you can never be sure with the homeless can you? " Now the corners of his well shaped mouth begun to twitch. You didn't have to take a "leap of faith" to believe in these shifters or their lifestyle. You learn about them as Myra does and you believe it. Myra's character is fresh, fun, sarcastic, and well-thought out. Alex Wade is a man with authority he handles with great skill but also at great cost. He wants Myra but because of mistakes in his past, he knows it will be safer for her if he lets her go. The constant conflict in his emotions and Myra's independence set up all kinds of interesting situations. T. M. Marie's concept and execution are excellent. Sex is implied but not explicit, leaving the story to shine. As the dangers weave in and out of the story line, both Myra and Alex grow and change, leading to a really great ending. Very well done.
