I found this book to be refreshing. It was nice to read a book without all the underlining sex, negativity, and crap that so many have these days. This book would be an excellent book for any teenager. It was a great Christian book with a great message. Would love to read some more like this. ( )

This book is a great book particulary for the young person. This story talks about how Emery grows while on a mission trip one year. She learns a lot about herself, her faith and the dynamics of relationships during her time there. The students that have gone to work on this missions trip really love the people they are helping and are rather devestated when a tornado comes through and destroys much of their work and endangering the families that they have some to love. Through their love and gentle service one family finds their way back to ( and just to in the first place for the little girl) the lord. They are also able to do a little reuniting through their mission work. Meanwhile Emery learns more about herself and learns to come out of her shell. She also grows as a Christian through her experiences with others- not only serving the needy but also learning to forgive. I enjoyed this book very much and would share it with any young people I might have in the family. ( )

This was a book that I just could not put down. I thoroughly enjoyed the character, the story line, and the way it was written. I have young teen grandchildren and will recommend this book highly for them to read. Although I felt it was for younger readers, I felt the story line could be applied to any age. I received this book through the early reviewer plan and appreciate the opportunity to read it. I would read more books by Cindy Ellis. ( )

Emery is 13 years old, and is both excited and apprehensive about her first mission trip. She will be away from home for several weeks, working with people she's never met to help fix up homes in rural West Virginia. Emery is eager to meet new friends and to grow in her faith. But when a new friendship turns sour and then tragedy strikes those she's grown to love, Emery realizes that her trip will stretch her in ways she couldn't have imagined.

I admire Ellis' desire to write a clean, inspirational book for young teens. She has certainly created a likeable character in Emery. However, I found myself feeling as if the character development was rather flat, and the easy resolution to Emery's difficulties seemed unrealistic and simplistic. Nonetheless, late elementary and middle school girls who are looking for a clean, Christian book should enjoy Emery's story. ( )

Wow! An unusual book for me to pick and read, but I enjoyed it from the start. I had two books to read but could not put this one aside until I finished! Very well written and flowed beautifully. What I loved most was that while the story was about a christian group of teenagers on a mission to help people, it certainly didn't throw christianity, the bible and all the religion "speak" at you that you would expect. I was pleasantly surprised with the content as well as the writing, which was easy to read and understand. Some minor editorial glitches that don't detract from the work. Thouroughly enjoyable read, so much so that I am looking forward to reading it again during the holidays. ( )
