A laconic thriller without too much thrill. Sort of John Grisham meets Mario Puzo. The pace is slow and leisurely which might bore a thriller reader but I found entrancing. The writing is workmanly and the author does not stray far enough into romance and side plots to lose the reader's interest. Simplistic and punchy but lyrical enough to be satisfying. ( )
