This is popular science/history for the masses. I enjoyed the tramp across pre-history to modern times, but the book is let down by errors and omissions.
We are told the during the ice age "the temperature dropped to roughly minus 60 degrees Celsius". Really? Where? Everywhere?? Was every ocean on earth frozen solid??
Then there are the clunky sentence constructions, the maps with careful colour coding - but no explanations, the map the labels Japan as Taiwan. I could go on.
What a shame. Something that could be a great introduction for the lay reader is let down by editing and production problems that should have never got to print. ( )

Universal histories are by nature highly selective considering the wide range it attempts to cover. Its fatal flaws are exponentially higher when relegated to one volume such as this. Over generalization with broad sweeping statements is apparent with this author. Little errors such as claiming Napoleon died on Elba when he actually died on St Helena or claiming Philip II drove out the Moriscos in Spain in 1609 when Philip II died in 1598. The reviewer does not know whether the author bothered to proofread when this was printed. Also, her claim that Cholera was the first global pandemic in the 1800s ignores the Bubonic plague in the 1300s which she herself admitted that it had spread from China to Europe which devastated Asia & Europe but this is an example of her exaggerations one finds throughout her book. Her claims of climate change without explanation in 2 of 3 cases. At least, she mentioned the Santorini eruption but failed to mention the other two (1452 & 1815) that impacted empires & continents. Of course, it has a few good things but the wide generalizations severely limit the usefulness of this work. ( )

NOTE: I received a copy for a honest review.

When I saw this book it reminded me of illustrated books I saw when I was much younger about different things such as science, history and other subjects. In a way this book was like that but mainly it was an ad for the History Channel and gave brief scenes about shows that will be broadcasted. Even so, it was still interesting and did get me interested in watching the different shows when they are broadcasted.
So as a full Graphic Novel, poor. As an interesting read designed to interest a reader in some new shows about the history of mankind. It served its purpose. ( )
