This anthology of 16 short stories set in the Shadowrun universe contains relatively little of value. Almost every story includes at least one fight scene, but precious few include interesting characters, a moral or intellectual dilemma, or even an inspiring snapshot of the SR4 setting. Those hunting for ideas for an RPG campaign are likely to be as disappointed as those who simply want to enjoy a few good SF tales. There are a couple stories which stand out from the pack ("Better Than" by Jean Rabe and "Fade Away" by Steve Kenson), but even these stories would only receive 4 stars if considered independently. Perhaps the best thing about this anthology is that it makes you feel as though it wouldn't be too hard for you to become a published fiction author. ( )
