My Kindle copy had serious formatting issues - no break between scenes, and a block of several pages were repeated, but that isn’t why I gave this three stars. It is entertaining but not outstanding. ( ) I was actually glad I was coming down with something when I pulled this book from my pile. It meant I could read it in one sitting! Rachel Burton, the medical examiner/coroner of Tuonela, WI is concerned that her old friend Evan Stroud is part of a series of murders occurring in the weird-at-best little town. They were childhood friends and remained so when Evan contracted a disease which made him look and act like a vampire. He cannot go out during the day as sunlight causes him extreme pain. When Graham, Evan's son, shows up on the doorstep, Evan doesn't believe him until a DNA test proves his story. Even then, Graham and Evan step cautiously around each other. Graham is enrolled in school where he meets a "gang" of boys known as the Pale Immortals. They believe they will soon ascend to vampire-hood after drinking a virgin's blood and eating Evan's heart. Rachel and Evan try to save Graham. Graham tries to save hias friend Isobel. Graham's mom tries to take him back to Arizona and the plots go on. Apparently, there is a part two to this series and I'm off to find it now! Get comfy, this is definitely a one-read book! An old horror is awakening in the town of Tuonela (Finnish for "land of the dead"). Young women are being found dead, drained of their blood. Are these crimes being perpetrated by a group of teens calling themselves "the pale immortals," or is a real vampire loose in Tuonela? A fast-paced horror read. no reviews | add a review
