This free resource provided by the Library of Congress offer provides a well-organized, up-to-the minute database of information about all things related to the United States Library of Congress. A veritable gold mine of links, documents, and resources, this website is a great resource for doing research about government procedures, government documents and more. There is even a special section of the site (http://thomas.loc.gov/teachers/) devoted to making thomas.loc.gov a valuable educational resource, and Ben's Guide (http://bensguide.gpo.gov/6-8/index.html), a helpful primer to U.S. government, allows users to select an age range. While the format of Ben's Guide feels a little child-like, the information is tailored to the audience indicated (grades 6-8, for example). While some of the documents and articles in this database will be most appropriate for high school students, there is plenty on this site younger students can make use of. Students may particularly enjoy the near-constant Twitter updates about congressional procedures scrolling on the right-hand side of the home page, while teachers can gain access to primary documents with which to illustrate history or social studies lessons. In addition to being a free resource, thomas.loc.gov is an authoritative and comprehensive online guide to the Library of Congress and the U.S. government. Highly Recommended. ( )
