 Ms. Masterman is oddly but well qualified to write such a story. She’s an editor of medical textbooks for forensic examiners and law enforcement, but that expertise does not make “Rage Against the Dying” ghoulish. Or not too ghoulish, and not pornographic about death. It’s just that bodies abandoned in desert heat tend to mummify. This book is intense and some descriptions so graphic that I still have a hard time getting them out of my head. While you are trying to find out who the serial killer is you are also trying to figure out how Birgid is going to get out of this situation. While I sympathize with this character and follow her thought process there are times that I question if she has went off the deep end.. but either way, I'm routing for her!
Down sides for me, it felt a little too "us against them" when it came to no one believing their story and even laughing it off. Also this writing style was a little meh for me, there was some humor and a little love story but it felt a little monotone or light on emotion maybe? Which I can see this being an FBI agent that this could be purposeful, but as a reader I felt I needed a bit more. (
