This is a fictional fairy tale. The illustrations are done in watercolors. The content is about a man who tells the king his daughter can spin straw into gold. The king locks the girl in a tower for three days to spin gold. A dwarf comes to her rescue and spins gold for her in exchange for her necklace, her ring, and her first born child. Later she marries the king and has a child. She bargains with the dwarf a second time to keep her child if she can guess his name. She guesses right the third time and gets to keep her child. The reading level of this story is from second to fourth grade. Some curricular connections could be dwarfs, spinning, and fairy tales.
