With Obama's "strategic pivot" to Asia previously little-discussed nations like Cambodia are likely to see more reporting in mainstream newspapers and news channels. Aside from Norodom Sihanouk's recent passing, Cambodia hasn't really been in the eye of the press following UNTAC's conclusion and Hun Sen's coup d'etat in the late '90s; the West's attention seems to be drawn more to human rights abuses in the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Northeast Asia. This brief report does a good job of highlighting some of the many instances of flagrant human rights abuses by Hun Sen and other elites in his political regime, and with luck will bring some pressure to bear on both Cambodia and international actors to bring the perpetrators to account.
