Stone Barrington is no stranger to schemes and deceptions of all stripes; as an attorney for the premier white-shoe law firm Woodman & Weld, he has seen more than his share. But when he travels to Europe under highly unusual circumstances, Stone finds himself at the center of a mystery that is, even by his standards, most peculiar. While investigating a high-profile murder, he uncovers a puzzling conspiracy involving the European elite and the deadly games they play. With no checks on their ambition, the wealthy will go to any ends to increase their power, and only Stone stands in the way of their dark schemes. Two unexpected invitations may be the first clues in the intricate puzzle Stone must unravel to learn the truth, a puzzle that will lead him deep into the rarefied world of European ultrawealth and privilege, where billionaires rub elbows with spooks, insider knowledge is traded at a high premium, and murder is never too high a price to pay for a desired end. It soon becomes clear that beneath the bright lights of Europe lurks a shadowy underworld, and its only rule is deadly ambition.… (more)

Unintended Consequences is another fast, easy read by Mr. Woods. Stone and his multi-million dollar friends eat dinner, drive expensive cars, and get shot at while wheeling and dealing. There's always the tall blond when Holly Barker isn't around. These books are increasingly into the international spy/terrorist genre. Nothing new, but the dry humor is still entertaining. ( )

A Stone Barrington novel that does not start with "Elaine's late." Stone finds himself in Paris with no notion of how he got there or what happened in the last four days. He has some new friends: businessman Marcel duBois, a French Warren Buffet, lover, Helga Becker, a crafty Swede, and CIA pal, Richard LaRose. Everybody seems to want to buy Stone's Arrington hotel property in Bel Air, with duBois selling the first of his new supercars to Stone at a discounted price. Meanwhile, the CIA wants a relationship with duBois and the Russians seem to be intent on killing Stone's friends. After some shenanigans in Paris, the group relocates to Stone's U.S. homes, where things escalate before a wild helicopter duel over Brighton Beach. ( )

Stone finds himself in Paris with no idea how he got there or why he's there. The usual murders, tight situations and flings ensue. Then Stone goes back to the States where it's more of the same.
This isn't to denigrate the story...it's to say that Stuart Woods appears to be back in form. The last few Stone books have been lacking but it looks like maybe all is not lost for Stone Barrington fans. Guess we'll have to wait for the next book to see. ( )

Stone gets drugged no his way to Paris and we are off on his new adventure. The bad guys this time are Russian and seeking to take over The Arrington. Lots of action, sex, and narrow escapes but a good book for a beachy afternoon. ( )

Stone wakes up in Paris with no memory of the last four days of his life. He meets super rich Frenchman DeBois and Sweedish Helga, the book's love interest. People trying to kill him. Dino and Viv get married; Holly moves out to focus on her job. Amazingly, Helga lives through the experience. Dino and Viv get married. This book ties up the past and future of the series. ( )
