"John Wayne, the Legend and the Man" supplies an appealing look at the larger-than-life iconic movie star who came to symbolize the American character in the minds of many people. This hefty 2012 release chronicles Wayne's life and career in roughly chronological order. It offers up hundreds of black and white and color photographs, movie posters and remembrances from co-stars and friends that present a rare, behind-the-scenes and altogether charming portrait of Wayne, his family and friends, etc. All in all, this book is a well-done and affectionate tribute to a cinematic legend.
( ) Coffee table size book containing photos of John Wayne's life and career and released by the John Wayne estate. The book is well done with many never before seen photos although I wonder why, after childhood, there were never any photos of Wayne with his brother. Additionally, there is an error in the caption on page 198-199 in the photo from The Sons of Katie Elder as the names for Michael Anderson Jr. and Earl Holliman are mismatched as Holliman is pictured on the far right. There are tribute articles from Maureen O'Hara, Ronald Reagan, and Ron Howard, as well as a brief biographical introduction by Patricia Bosworth and a forward by Martin Scorsese. A must for any fan of the Duke! no reviews | add a review
