... memories of the incident. I loved how the chapters were headed by different quilting patterns. Expertly stitched.
119. Revelation Space, Alastair Reynolds
Big Space Opera. My return to the genre after a long time. Good fun. Nearly thought I was going to be left with an annoying cliff ... I'm reading my first space opera for many years Revelation Space and its very good. The last one I can remember reading was Downbelow Station. ... the best place for you to start with her. Detailed and complex time distorted history across several fantasy worlds.
Revelation Space is one of the best hard SF books I've read in the last few years. ... with fangorn only a few days travel away.
But there are many other possabilities.
Chasm City during the Belle Epoch Revelation Space would pretty good.
Pern - between passes - with my own fire-lizards.
Probably not on any of CJ Cherryh's worlds - they always seem to have a lot of ... I also got all the books in this series, other than Revelation Space, that I already had in an older edition, and Altered Carbon, that seemed to be sold out when I got them. (Though I seemed to be mistaken, and should order it.)
I would love to see them expand this concept. Even better would ... ... I think is the title of them.
Incidentally, I love C.J. Sansom's Dissolution-Sovereign series. I can't find Revelation though--is it not available in the States? Supposedly Dissolution was the "closed environment mystery--like a country house or ocean liner--while Dark Fire was ... The Day of the Jackal/The Night of the Iguana
A Midsummer Night's Dream/The Winter's Tale
Revelation/The Secret History
Never Let Me Go/Farewell My Lovely
The Waste Land/The Good Earth ... story, but this might be deliberately set up by the author as the story focuses on people feeling detached from life.
Revelation Space by Alistair Reynolds - a recommendation from the Sci-Fi group. I really enjoyed it.
#45 - read Reynolds's Revelation space sequence (or the short story summary Galactic North) : Greenfly really isn't a clever solution to all our eggs in one basket. We only have one galaxy too.
#63 because our technology isn't up to it yet? We still barely have a reliable launch vehicle. ... at the Claremont by Elizabeth Taylor
The Good Soldier by Ford Madox Ford
The Nine Tailors by Dorothy L Sayers
Revelation by C J Sansom
and the non-fiction
The Suspicions of Mr Whicher:A Shocking Murder and the Undoing of a Great Victorian Detective by Kate Summerscale
#53 ... ... are praising him. You really get a sense of the turbulent times of mid-16th century England. The last one published is Revelation. (touchstone is wrong) ... stopped reading other books for other reasons, but none so strongly felt.
I got about 50 pages into Alastair Reynolds' Revelation Space and realized that I didn't care about the characters or find their motivations believable.
I got a few paragraphs into some Barbara Hambly dragon ...
Nearly finished Revelation by C J Sansom, the first of his historical crime books that I've tried and will certainly read the other three he's written. I'd love to live in some of the nicer bits of the Glitter Band in Revelation Space pre-collapse, neuroally and physically modded as whim takes.
But a somewhere with dragons would be pretty cool too, maybe between passes in Pern
But life sounds fairly hand to mouth there so pehaps Downbel ... ... Of Suns by Al Reynolds (160 pages in) and so far is proving an excellent read. As a writer he has improved greatly since Revelation Space (his debut novel) IMO. ... by Gary Wolfe in a panel discussion I saw. He said that in his opinion it was one of the most important books so far. Also, Alastair Reynolds is basically the biggest writer in this vein. Then comes Robert Reed. And of course, the anthology New Space Opera.
Anyone have any insights, ... > 16
I know what you mean! I started Revelation Space about six months ago, and I'm not even halfway through with it. The storyline confuses me too! It keeps jumping to different groups of characters and different times, and i keep coming across terms that I don't even recognize. I have to ... ... Perfect, Lord John and the Private Matter, Ghost Writer, Yellow Admiral, the Hundred Days, Blue at the Mizzen, Revelation Space, Codeword Janus, to be contd I second Karen Traviss' Wess'har wars, and Elisabeth Bear's Carnival.
Alastair Reynolds (Revelation Space) and Neal Asher (Gridlinked, The Skinner) are good too.
Walter Jon Williams's Metropolitan is not as definitely science fiction, but takes place in a very ... For me the book I haven't finished yet (but started about 2 years ago) is Revelation Space.
There are too many plots and time jumps (by a few years or so) that i'm finding it hard to remember who's doing what and when - something which is essential for me to successfully finish a book. ... any of you read it? What did you think?
I've also read her other books: The Rai-Kirah trology -- Transformation, Revelation and Restoration. I enjoyed those, too, although, wow, does she like to beat up her main character or what? Still, a fascinating situation, world, characters ... Agree with the original post about Wilcox. Also, Jesse Lee Kercheval's memoir Space is an excellent book about growing up around the US space program. I'm just about finished with Abarat: Days of Magic, Nights of War. After that, I'm going to work on finishing Revelation Space. I also need to finish Forward the Foundation, Inherit the Stars, Ilse Witch, The Listeners, and Dhalgren. I have such a bad habit of starting books but never ... Woo Hoo--up to 6 on this one: Space Michener is always good, Mistral's Daughter a woman's read, Valley of the Horses after Clan of the Cave Bear this was a disappointment, 2010: Odyssey Two a wonderful sci-fi series, The Man from St. Petersburg a good Follet suspense genre, Master of ... Cyteen
Revelation Space
Killing floor
Master of Whitestorm
Diamond Age
Darkworld:
Storm Front
Eyre Affair
Innocent Mage and Awakened Mage
Hogfather
Foreigner
Plenty more.
Gah as i was too slow 20000000 more.
Go touchstones!
and welcome to LT I am moving through Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds and Moving Mars by Greg Bear Actually you really only need to pick up Revelation Space by Reynolds, Chasm City although part of the series (in a loose sense) doesn't really contribute to the story that spans from Revelation Space to Absolution Gap.
Unfortunately Revelation Space is by far the weakest of his books. Ch ... Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds has cryonics as central for some of the characters, and to a lesser degree for the storyline. ... I think the first time I got another chapter or two in before I dropped it. After that I didn't even bother to try. I have Space and someday may try it.
143 - Duncton Wood by Horwood. Yes. I have no clue why or how, but I read this book and at least one sequel. Maybe I was jonesing for Wat ... First post! Woot!
Just finished Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds. As many, many reviews on Amazon say, great ideas, odd and overly long execution. It'll be a while before I revisit Reynolds.
Still plugging away with Einstein by Walter Isaacson. Very mixed feelings about ... red mars, green mars, and blue mars by kim stanley robinson
revelation space by alastair reynolds
the "bio of a space tyrant" series by piers anthony (refugee, mercenary, politician, executive, statesman)
people of the earth by ellen evert hopman (wrong ... As soon as I finished Calculating God by Robert J.Sawyer I started Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds. I just pray this one won't spoil a nice work with an awful ending. Alastair Reynolds has some great books. The Revelation Space trilogy was superb science-fiction.
I would also suggest Scott Westerfeld's Succession series (The Risen Empire and the Killing of Worlds.) ... are now 5 parts
Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy is famously a triolgy in 5 parts.
Lord Foul's bane ditto.
Revelation space is a quartet I think.
the novice is a trilogy
as is Priestess of the white although the final part of this is only available later this year?
Lo ... ... which is many including a couple of Hugo winners.
Alistair Reynolds another SF opera stunning series starting with Revelation Space
Mystery wise
No. 1 Ladies detective agency is now 8 books long I think, charming descriptions of life in africa
P. D. James well appreciated ... I'm in the middle of Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds (2000), and it's pretty good so far. 1. The Ultimate Hitchiker's Guide - Douglas Adams
2. Dune - Frank Herbert
3. Revelation Space - Alastair Reynolds
4. Dragon Wing - Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
5. Animal Farm - George Orwell ... attack. I also continue to pick at War Surf, which while I'm liking a great deal more then the last SF novel I read (Revelation Space), I'm not quite in the mood for it. #55 That's very harsh on absolution gap, no it isn't as good as revelation space but it isn't that much worse. very different, yes. but it rounds off a galaxial sized story with a wide focus finish which is far better than just concentrating down to a few characters. I enjoyed it. ... Reynolds has some online short stories of his, follow the link from his author page. They are kind of set in the revelation Space world so it might help to have read that first.

#it is the Green Dragon after all. ... as each work that I read all the way through I've been tagging with the year I've done so.
This evening I finished up Revelation Space, which is impressive for its depth of concept and intricate plot and annoying for a main character who might as well have the nickname "Sushi." I finally finished Revelation Space this evening, which has a good payoff, even if it is also suffused with what seem like a lot of empty plot twists and a lead character who is truly insufferable.
It's then back to That Body of Brave Men. ... will be on my TBR list for the future, also on my list are:
Green Mars
Blue Mars
Footfall
Pandora's Star
Revelation Space
War and Peace
I knocked off Imperial Japanese Naval Aviator, 1937-45 while loitering in Borders yesterday. Revelation Space bogged down for me so I'm now reading The Philadelphia Campaign 1777-1778. I continue to poke along with Revelation Space, but have finished To the Ends of Japan. The next non-fiction book will be Sledgehammers. I just finished "Stalin's Ocean-going Fleet" and will probably return to Revelation Space. I'm still putzing around with Revelation Space. ... funnier. Whether that's the all time funniest I'm prepared to debate.
Best SciFI - Space Opera = Alastair Reynolds Revelation Space.
SF drama, very tricky Dune is in with a shout but none of the sequals.
best SF series is Foreigner by Cherryh no question about it.
There ... ... being a really gripping piece of reportage that anyone who enjoyed Blind Man's Bluff should also like, I'm now starting Revelation Space. 1: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (11790)
100: Ringworld (1145)
10% Revelation Space (529)
50% Cachalot (75)
90% Applied Mythology (13)
Unshared: 18
I've only read the first two of those. My collection keeps growing, but I haven't actually had time to sit down and read ... I've been reading Absolution Gap by Alastair Reynolds, the fourth novel set in his "Revelation Space" universe. All of the books so far are very imaginative and original, and I would highly recommend them for any sci-fi reader who hasn't discovered them yet. ... over America" while loitering around assorted bookstores. The next book is likely to be USS Ranger, followed by Revelation Space. A friend of mine gave me a copy of Revelation Space. ... The Naked God.
