Work detailsBleach, Volume 1: Strawberry and the Soul Reapers by Tite Kubo
An interesting story of a young man who finds himself sucked into the world of Soul Reapers and ghosts. Interesting Summary: A boy named Ichigo Kuraski lives a normal teenage life. Except for the fact he can see and talk to the dead. One day his life changes when he meets a girl named Rukia Kuchici who has soul reaper powers. In order to save his family from evil spirits called hollows, Ichigo himself must become a soul reaper. Personal Reaction: I really liked this series, It is a manga which have many more books to it but also it is a show that comes on tv at night. Classroom Extension Ideas: 1. Have the kids make their own graphic novels. 2. Do a study on Japan and other animes. I've never really been into manga before. I like the lengthy books and the descriptiveness that comes with them. But an episode of the anime version of Bleach was on at a friend's house while I was there and I became interested in the story, so I thought I would give it a try. Actually, I watched the anime first and am only now reading the manga. I think I prefer watching the story to reading it, since the artist can only draw so much. Regardless the story is great enough to keep me reading, even though I already know what happens. That says something, right? The anime follows the book really well, but some things are bound to be changed. One of those was some dialogue. I haven't decided which I like better. The artwork is enjoyable too, although I hope that the drawings evolve as the characters get older. Anyways, five stars for a great story. no reviews | add a review Is contained inHas as a reference guide/companion

In the classroom you could have the children make their own comic book and have them draw their own pictures to go with the story. Also they could get into small groups and make up their own story as a group and then share them with the class.
