Get the Led Out is the ultimate book for the ultimate fan of the ultimate band--Led Zeppelin. This lushly illustrated volume begins with a unique day-by-day timeline based on Carol Miller's radio show of the same name, and it provides a behind-the-scenes view, revealing quirky details, achievements, and adventures big and small. Twenty-seven rare, unguarded interviews feature the band members themselves, as well as other musicians and insiders who witnessed it all, including Jason Bonham, Chris Squire (Yes), Joe Perry (Aerosmith), Alice Cooper, and music industry legends Danny Goldberg and Ron Nevinson. The book ends with a comprehensive discography.… (more)

A fairly solid overview of the band on an almost day-by-day basis, and also a collection of interesting—if sometimes slightly repetitious—interviews with key figures or peers of the band.

While the day-to-day stuff was at times highly interesting, I found the author would sometimes note dates back to back with the same information (played at this location, played at same location, played at same location again), while totally omitting dates where the band recorded a full album. Strange.

And, while I also enjoyed most of the interviews, I found the interviewer had a particularly irritating habit of asking two questions over and over. One was, what is the defining Led Zeppelin song? Whole Lotta Love, Stairway to Heaven, or Kashmir? Seriously? Who cares?

The other was, do you think Robert Plant will ever get over his need to define himself as a solo artist and agree to go back out on a Led Zep reunion tour? Again, who cares? The only person that can answer that would be Plant himself.

What I did learn from this book is precisely how much Page and Plant stole from those who came before them, and usually, unless coerced by legal means, never gave credit where credit was due.

Really lowered my estimation of the band, because that's a supremely dick move. ( )
