In luck and out of luck, John Grimes was a living legend of the spaceways. He had been an officer of the service, he had been the victim of a mutiny, he had discovered lost worlds, he had served under strange masters and on strange ships, but he had never turned space pirate. Another entry in the A. Bertram Chandler John Grimes series. The aliens were fun. This features a number of characters from earlier Grimes novels, and therefore is not the book in this series to start with, best read in chronological order. Feminists will not find this a pleasing book :-)

A. Bertram Chandler was the Master of a Merchant ship in real life, and no doubt some of the crew character interactions benefit from his long experience aboard ship.

Space Opera Adventure with a dollop of Hornblower. 3.5 Stars
