This novel was amazing, but I have to just say that I don’t really like these covers at all, so this is a perfect example of not judging a book by their covers because the stories themselves are great and totally worth a read! It gets right into the story of Cam having weird dreams, foreshadowing what is in store for him. He’s over Angels, but still very much hung up on Cherie. Poor guy…his hot as hell girlfriend develops a sexual superpower then dumps him. He is being followed by a star dreamling, and his destiny is calling. A fascinating read from cover to cover. Erotic and moving descriptions…the author Calinda B has an amazing way with words that is downright hypnotizing at times. Highly recommend to fans of romance, erotica, fantasy/paranormal…heck, anyone who wants a well written and addictive story unlike any they’ve ever read before. ( )

Lately I have been disappointed with a few series that I have read, because I’ll really like the first book and be all excited for the next, only to find that it falls flat or the author has deviated from the original formula too much. But I was thrilled to see that this wasn’t the case with “A Wicked Awakening”! If anything, I liked this one even better, probably because I already knew the characters and story from the first book, and there wasn’t all the “getting to know you” stuff. This book is a part of a series and I don’t think it would really work all that well as a standalone, but the first book is great, so go try it!! This is definitely not some vapid, empty novel, but ones that make you think in a different way. I appreciated the intelligence and “wicked” creativity of the author, and can’t wait to read the next one! ( )

I very much enjoyed the first book of this series, and wasn’t sure how the next one would be. But I’m happy to say that I thought this one was even better! I thought the pacing was better and the narrative tighter. It seems like the author really hit her stride with this one and the creativity is simply astounding. I read A LOT of paranormal/fantasy romances and I can’t think of any that are like these books. This story is more about Cam and his special “awakening”, but Cherie is still very much a focus of the book as well, along with some interesting new characters. I am really enjoying this series and am impressed with the author, Calinda B’s writing. ( )

"A Wicked Beginning” is the second book in the Wicked Series by Calinda B. I loved the first one, “A Wicked Awakening”, and was super excited to read this one as soon as possible. Well, it did not disappoint! If I gave “A Wicked Awakening” 5 stars, I want to give “A Wicked Awakening” 6!!! I loved how it was told mostly from Cam’s perspective this time (although we still see Cherie’s and other’s too), and I thought it was just as original and unpredictable as the first. Warning, do not start reading these if you have somewhere to be because these books are loooong and you will want to savor ever delicious page!! Can’t wait to read #3, “A Wicked Whispering”!! ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0983912629, Paperback)

Cam Tyson's just an ordinary guy, living an ordinary life, pursuing the things that he loves – rock climbing, his ex-girlfriend, kayaking, his ex-girlfriend, river surfing, his ex-girlfriend...oh, and did I say his ex-girlfriend? The guy's lovesick with his ex, even though she, well, she glimmers like a set of Christmas lights when she gets turned on and she's out dancing in the cosmos somewhere. That's a real mind bender for Cam because he only believes in the here and now and Planet Earth, baby. Leave the paranormal to the freaks and weirdoes.

So, while he's tracking his "Wish She was Still My Girlfriend Ex" like a prowling alley cat, what the heck kind of creature is tracking him? He'd really like to know. Was it the same creature that made the radio-active, green-glowing gash down his thigh and leers at him from secret places? His best bud Mano says it's a star dreamling. Now that's weird!

And what about these freakish, red-eyed bat swirling nightmares he keeps having? Until recently, his dreams were always considered the kind of stuff you pitched when you took out the trash. Did the psycho-bitch he dated a while back forget to take her meds? She's stalking him with Zombie like intensity in his dreams and scaring the Bejeezus out of him. And quite frankly, as a result of all these crazy encounters with phenomena he doesn't believe in, he's starting to become un-hinged.

When Cam decides to face this supernatural freak-fest, the Tilt-a-Whirl reality begins. His life takes on the white-knuckle intensity that only an adrenaline junkie can appreciate. And while his heart may say he's on the right path, his mind keeps telling him to stop believing in the paranormal…because it just doesn't exist. Right...
