Wow. It's weird, even for a Nancy Springer - but a fantastic story (and now I want to read Shane, which I have but have never read). I think it hits a little harder than the Isle and Vale books, if only because it's using archetypes that are more familiar to me. It's more or less set in the here and nearly now - where it isn't set in eternity or outside time and place entirely. Bobbi is fascinating - it's a coming-of-age story, of sorts, and a coming-into-power story, and making important choices...Shane is very strange - I like him best when he's being the most "normal" - when he's arguing with Bobbi about her riding, for instance. And there's a bit of the archetypes in everyone...Definitely a story that will reward rereading, in a while. ( ) no reviews | add a review
