I cried, I sobbed! Loved it! ( )

I was asked to provide an honest review from NetGallery, with an advance reading.

Let me start by saying thank you to Nyrae Dawn for such a profound view on life through the eyes of two beautiful people. There was such anguish in this book. I felt so many emotions.

As I have tried to express above, this was a powerful and engaging book. This book is in a series and I have not read the first book of this series. This worried me and I truly thought this might effect how well I understand this book. But this book is a standalone. You see snippets from the first book but they help with the development of this book and not hinder the readers understanding.

The key characters in this book are Delaney and Adrian. They are two adults that are dealing with issues in their life. These issues are connected but Adrian does not know this in his pursuit to bed Delaney. Delaney does know that they are connected.

In many stories we are told that things happen for a reason, those reasons are unbeknownst to us but when they happen, two people from different locations are drawn together. They just get one another. In this book, two hurt (emotionally distraught) people are pulled together and are intrigued and attracted to one another. Ask yourself: How can you fix what is all ready broken? How can one learn to trust if they cannot trust yourself? Trust me when you read this book, you will understand this statement.

This story is so gut wrenching. I had to obtain a box of tissues while reading the story.

I have never wanted a particular outcome to occur more in a book then this one.

NOTE: I received the book via Netgalley.

Well, wow! I was speechless after finishing this one. And, just like every amazing story, it had me absolutely depressed. Why? Simple - because it was over!

This is the very first book I've read by Nyrae Dawn and I must say that I enjoyed every single word of it. The style was flawless, the story was well developed, the world building was amazing and the characters had the depth of real life individuals. What more could a reader ask for?

I think I've turned into a Nyrae Dawn fan already, seeing that Facade made such a deep impression on me because it was so full of emotion, it was basically overflowing. The pain was tangible, making me hurt along with the characters. The passion was all-consuming and the love... Wow! The love blew my mind! Tough love, painful love. Love that is worth any and all sacrifice. Love that should conquer all in the end. It's that kind of love that makes a character really come to life.

Here all the characters were alive, though none was actively living. They were just trying to pass the day, to get it over with. Each one had a different method of accomplishing that, but in the end, it seemed to work. Or not. Pulled together in an unlikely manner, they slowly get to know each other and change accordingly.

Fists fly, words hurt, love comes and then goes...

But the core secret that this book revolves around is breathtakingly painful. I cried because the tragedy felt too great and heavy in places. What the characters went through set in motion a wheel of events that totally changed the grand scheme of things.

Delaney bore no fault in any of it, but she took the blame and carried it for so long, it had taken a toll on her very soul. Her family was broken beyond repair, but she never gave up, even when her mom treated her like trash. Thank heavens that at least her brother stood by her side through it all.

Then Adrian came in the picture. Or actually Delaney walked into his world, uninvited and shy, but resolved to do the right thing. And while Adrian was clueless that he and Laney were connected in an awfully twisted way, he tried very hard to figure out a way to hook up with her. In his current mindset, that's all he sees Laney as - a hookup. But then he writes her poetry, in which he shares his shattered soul. Slowly he realizes that there's more to this girl that he thought. Somehow she had become the only real person in his life. The only person who really matters. Only thing is, would learning the truth about Laney change his feelings for her?

And would learning the real truth change Delaney? Would there ever be a happily ever after? ( )

Façade is a solidly written and entertaining new adult story. It is not, however, a light and breezy read. The subject matter is dark and unsettling. Adrian’s and Delaney’s story is a deeply moody and emotionally retching tale. Both of these character’s lives and the lives of those closest to them have been shaped by fear, addiction, abuse, depression and unspeakable tragedy. The raw intensity is relentless. Chapter after chapter, both Adrian and Delaney’s suffering is constant. Their friendship and romance is their only reprieve from pain.

There are some very sexy moments in this book. Adrian is direct with his intent and lays the flirt on thick. As their shared attraction and connection progresses, Adrian’s mask begins to fall. He becomes even sexier when his vulnerability, chivalry and strength are revealed.

For two troubled souls, Adrian and Delaney’s romance and passion is surprisingly innocent and fresh. Their sex scenes aren’t overly explicit, descriptive or lengthy. They are moderately steamy and reveal Adrian to be a talented, respectful and generous lover.

I look forward to continuing this series with Masquerade (Games #3). I’m excited to read more about Maddox, Delaney’s hot, protective and very sexy older brother.

After reading Charade, I was so excited to begin Facade, which is Adrian's story. Adrian is Colt's best friend and former roommate. He comes across as a party boy, someone who just likes to have a good time and get high, but underneath, there is so much more depth to Adrian than meets the eye. He thinks, feels, sees, and knows things on a level that few are aware of. This has been to his detriment because of his past and a personal tragedy that has all but destroyed him, causing him to try to forget what happened by losing himself and seeking solace in weed and women. He's a player, a very hot player, and he knows how to put on a facade, wearing his mask well...most of the time. In reality, the person he is trying to fool the most is himself. Delaney Cross' life was shattered when she was a young teenager. Her family destroyed by a crime her father committed and the realization that his life, their family's life, had been a lie. Betrayed by the father she loved and left to deal with a suicidal mother who has turned all her bitterness and hatred on Delaney, this beautiful girl has somehow still managed to have a heart of gold, filled with compassion. She lives with her brother Maddox, and all they really have is each other.

Delaney is desperate to make amends for the things her father did, things that aren't her fault, yet she feels the burden of them as if they were. Determined to set things right, she and her brother Maddox pack up the car and move to a new town where Laney will try to do what she can to find forgiveness for the things her father has done. She ends up meeting Adrian. She knows he is a player and that she should stay away from him for more than one reason, but she also is able to see that deeper side of him that few get a glimpse into. Adrian doesn't do relationships. He doesn't let people in...ever... so when he begins to let Laney see glimpses of the real him, he isn't quite sure how to deal with it. He doesn't make promises, and Delaney doesn't ask for any, yet he can't stay away. No one knows just how damaged and hurt Adrian is, but he is beginning to let Laney see, and Laney is falling for him hard, even though she knows she shouldn't, and he is falling for her. Adrian has secrets, Delaney has secrets, and when these secrets collide, the fallout from the collision is more than either of them can bear, and something that they just may not be able to recover from.

Facade is such a good story. It is very deep, heartbreaking, and emotional. The darkness these characters go through is not camouflaged in any way, yet fleshed out in painstaking reality. I loved the relationship between Delaney and Adrian, how Nyrae Dawn developed it, as well as where she took it in the novel, no holds barred. There is even a twist towards the end that I definitely did not see coming, which added a whole new level of drama to the story. I also loved the fact that we get to see Colt and Cheyenne in this story, and we also meet Maddox, whose story will be the next in the series, Masquerade, and I cannot wait to read it. Facade is another new adult contemporary romance that stands out among the crowd. Nyrae Dawn has proven yet again what a talented author she is, and Facade is definitely a story that is worth taking the time to read. ( )
