For one, I thought the two main characters in the story were positive role models for children reading the book. In the story, the Little Mouse was determined to find someone to give his valentine to. Multiple characters in the beginning of the story told the Little Mouse that they did not want his valentine because it was too big. That did not discourage the Little Mouse to keep looking. The story explained that the “Little Mouse started to climb the hill. His valentine was heavy.” This showed how the Little Mouse refused to give up. Gloria, the other mouse, exemplified another positive trait. When she saw the Little Mouse carrying his big valentine she said, “I’ll help you carry it.” Gloria’s action is a great example to show children the benefits of being helpful because from this, Gloria and the Little Mouse became friends. Another reason I liked this book is because of the language. In the beginning, the author wrote in a pattern with the responses the different animals had when the Little Mouse offered them the valentine. They all refused to accept it until the last animal, Gloria. Since the author used that pattern in the beginning, the reader is surprised when Gloria accepts the valentine. Finally, I liked this book because of the illustrations. Each page had text along with illustrations that helped enhance the story. When children read this book, they can visually see the size of the valentine compared to the other animals. The big idea of Little Mouse’s Big Valentine is to never give up even when something is a big challenge; there will be a positive outcome for those who continue to overcome the challenge. In the story, if the Little Mouse became discouraged and gave up trying to find someone to give his valentine to he may have never met Gloria who became his friend. ( ) Little Mouse's Big Valentine was a very nice and sweet story. It is obviously, as the title says, about a mouse and a valentine heart shaped card that he made. However, this card is WAY to big, and it causes him a few problems during the day. The card also ends being a useful tool that he uses throughout the day. Eventually, he finds a female mouse that he can share his card with her, but even better, after that, he decides to cut up his giant card into many cards and spread them to all his friends. It is a cute little book, with simple illustrations that would be a great story read and make a lesson of with your class on Valentines Day. It is about a mouse named Little Mouse who makes a big valentine heart and tries to give to someone, but no one will take it until he finally meets another mouse named Gloria. He gives it to her, but she says it's too big so they both make many little hearts out of it and Little Mouse gives the best heart to Gloria. no reviews | add a review
