River of Doubt is good as was said. I dont know if you would call these classics but if you have never read INTO THE ABYSS: Explorers on the Edge of Survival. I enjoyed River of Doubt - Teddy Roosevelt and son's journey along a tributary of the Amazon. Not polar, but interesting. Congrats!

#5 I second the River of Doubt recommendation. Enjoyed both Amazon adventures very much! I've been recommending The River of Doubt to those who liked The Lost City of Z. It's the story of Teddy Roosevelt's exploration of an uncharted river in the Amazon basin after losing the election for President in 1912. Teddy's excursion is even mentioned in Z. I liked The Lost City of Z as well. As a follow-on, I've been recommending The River of Doubt, the story of Teddy Roosevelt's exploration of a river in the Amazonian basin at about the same time. So far on T.R. I've read River of Doubt by Millard and am halfway thru (and have been for some time!) T.R.: The Last Romantic by Brands. I have also read Four Hats in the Ring where T.R. is a chief character.
... liked The Lost City of Z - Teddy Roosevelt had his own Amazonian adventure exploring an unknown tributary described in The River of Doubt. I'd say the book isn't quite as compelling as Z, but pretty good anyway. Berly- Nice job on "Lost City.."! And River of doubt also looks very good. I've added it to my wish list. City of Z, by David Grann. (Suggested to me by Richard dear.) I also read about Roosevelt's adventure in the Amazon, River of Doubt earlier in the year. Just finished The Lost City of Z. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Would also recommend River of Doubt which follows Roosevelt into the Amazon. Thanks for the rec R.
Yep. It's pretty good! Have you read The River of Doubt? It's about Teddy Roosevelt's exploration of an unnamed river in the Amazon basin. Teddy's trip was briefly mentioned in The Lost City of Z. River of Doubt was a good one! Have you read The Lost City of Z yet?
