I would recommend this book for teens, it is an easy read, with an interesting plot. Adventure in a post apocalyptic world with relatable teen characters. Good story flow that doesn't lose your interest and potential for an ongoing series ( )

While there were a fair amount of typos and at least one name mix up, this story was a fun and quick read. The main five characters were a good balance of personalities and interacted well.

The storyline was good and compelling, although the characters made some jumps in logic that I felt were a little far fetched, and only explained later in the story. But these were few, and mostly concerned with some of the backstory.

All in all, I liked the book. I think it was wrapped up well and told an exciting adventure. ( )

Islanders is a Young Adult dystopian novel with a strong environmental angle.

Genetic engineering has created mutations to the environment, animals, humans and has changed the weather. When changes begin, two sects emerge in a war; those who find an alternate place to live without the genetic mutations- the Survivors along with their children that were born there-the Islanders and those left behind on the mainland.

When Ben Brewer-an Islander receives a mysterious message from his supposedly dead father on the mainland-the adventure begins. Strong characters and an interesting plot make this book hard to put down.

If you enjoyed the 'City of Ember' series, you will enjoy this! ( )

This book is a fast read, at least it was for me. I would put this book more in the category of young adult novel then adults. This book begins on an island where twin teen boys(Bad and Worse)are beating up on another and some what seeming smaller boy(Ben). In flight to get away from the brothers they come across a red paddle boat. Boats are something not normally seen on the island. This boy has come from the mainland to deliver a message from John Brewster which happens to be Ben's father that everyone thinks is died. It was said that he died trying to save people form the ravages from the war that happened on the mainland. The boys who have been bored with the life on the island decided to take this boat back to the mainland and save Ben's dad. Along the way this trio because a small group of 4 boys and one of the boys younger sister Silver. She is the brains behind the group while Ben gets thrown into the lead of the group and of course you guess by the names bad and worse become the thugs of the group or if you will the muscle of the group. The make it to the mainland after losing paddles to their boat to giant sea snakes. When they reach the mainland they run into many mutations some of them are beneficial such as huge fruit and veggies that this lot hasn't seen in awhile living on the island. Some of the not so good things are the silver dollar giant piranhas that eat the boat and only way back to the island. They find some wacky new friends that also want to help find John Brewer and save the people from the complex and take down the power hungry Jack Sullivan.

Really not a bad novel but think I would have liked a little more depth of the people of the book. ( )
