I am currently reading John Adams by David McCullough. I love that McCullough is not shy to point out the defficiencies in Adams' character, while doing a great job of detailing the remarkable life and influence of the man.

I'm 2/3 of the way through John Adams and it's quite good. Adams was probably a bit difficult to be around (opinionated, verbose, NOT shy), but his devotion to seeing our country survive as a nation was unsurpassed.

My 4th book is a biography. John Adams is entertaining and thought-provoking. David Mccullough is a much-lauded author and this book lives up to the hoopla. This book also fits in the 500 plus page book category and the historical fiction category.

I listened to David McCullough's 1776 and John Adams books when I had a long commute. I enjoyed listening to them, but I don't consider myself as having read those books. It's kind of like watching a movie or a play version of a book.

I read John Adams in 2007 and had the same reaction you did. Wasn't it also a great read! I could hardly put the book down.
Mine was John Adams 26 CDs 30+hrs. If it hadn't been so great, I don't think I would have made it through.
As of right now, John Adams , because it's my only non-fiction book on the list, and I tend to read those a bit slower. I may add a few more non-fiction, so this could be supplanted.
