The story is about a girl named sally and a boy named nick. They have a stuffed panda who's having a birthday. They are trying to figure out what to get her for her birthday and that is when Cat in the Hat shows up to help. He takes them to Bam-wam-a-boo-boo to figure out what panda's like. They find a big field of bamboo and learn many ways of using bamboo like back scratcher or flute. They meet a real panda named Zhu-Zhu and she tells them all of the things she likes to do with bamboo. The kids decide to bring their panda friend some bamboo.

Personal Reactions:
Its a cute book with flow and poetic rhythm. It does have longer and more challenging words. It could be more fun to read with the silly words or more challenging and the kids could lose interest.

Extension ideas:
-get real bamboo and have the kids try different things with it
-color pictures of pandas ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0375873074, Hardcover)

Sally's stuffed bear Pammy the Panda is turning two, and Sally wants to give her a gift. But what kind of things do pandas like? Enter the Cat in the Hat. His friend Zhu Zhu is a real panda—he's bound to have some suggestions! So off the gang goes to Bamwamabooboo, where Zhu Zhu teaches them about his favorite thing in the world: bamboo! Turns out that bamboo is not only a panda's favorite food, but it's an amazingly strong, lightweight, and flexible kind of grass—like the stuff on your lawn—that's good for building all sorts of things that humans like, too. Almost as much as they like a bargain—like a $3.99 Little Golden Book!

When Sally wants to give her toy panda a birthday present, the Cat in the Hat introduces her to Zhu Zhu, a real panda who tells her about bamboo, a panda's favorite food, and a very remarkable and useful plant in its own right.
