Blue Bear is a stuffed animal who has fallen from his owner's trailer on their way camping. He is lost in the Pacific Northwest and is befriended by a Brown and Black bear who will help him travel back to where he can be reunited with his young boy (owner). They head to find the campground and meet many native animals along the way. The story deviates from reality because the animals talk to one another, but the story tells the reader about animals that really live in the Pacific Northwest and provides details about each animal they meet. The story uses the illustrations to create vivid and accurate pictures of the setting, which is the many lakes, rivers and forests of the Pacific Northwest. The plot unfolds as Blue Bear is nervous that he won't find his family and climaxes when they meet Eagle and he grabs Blue Bear to fly over the campground so he can finally locate and be reunited with his little boy.
Media: Tempura, pencil, crayon
Genre: Picture book, Informational as it provides accurate information about the animals and nature that are specific to the Pacific NW; Animal fantasy (subcategory in Modern Fantasy, in which animals can speak: "My boy fell asleep and I slipped out of his arms. Hop of my back, said Black Bear. I'll help you search.") ( )
