Oh boy, such mixed feelings about this one. On the bright side: very entertaining. Think a pirate fantasy version of Star Wars: a princess in need of saving, a naive young man recruited to save her, a lovable rogue originally hired as a mercenary but... you get the picture. And oh yeah, an evil empire too! It's ambitious, epic and fun. The problems are mostly of execution: typos, misused words, atrocious grammar (I have come to expect those with most e-books, but it's still annoying), constant POV switches to the point of confusion. The love story wavers between touching and annoying- for two people this tough, this clever, they sure spend way too much time being clueless. The ending is... just strange. I had to re-read the last chapter twice and I still don't quite know what happened. I was fully prepared to give it 4 stars until the last two chapters. Oh well... ( )
