I wanted to hug the authors of this book! It combines two of my favorite things: Austen and cats! Seemingly, the much loved Pride & Prejudice characters are all cats who behave as regency humans. They enjoy balls, having a "Fancy feast," and activity seek a mate with good papers and comfortable satin pillows. Mr. Darcy is a fancy breed with 10,000 mice a year, while Lizzy is a country cat.

The book follows the spirit of P & P well, and also includes the original text. LOLcat-esque cat photos are also included in the chapters. Some are cute, some look strangely photoshopped.

But odd photos aside, it's a very cute book to add to your Austen collection. ( )

I enjoyed this. There were parts that were left out from Pride & Prejudice, but nothing that left a huge hole. It was very funny to see the characters as cats, especially the two most cattiest, Miss Bingley and Mrs. Hurst. ( )

”Netherfield Park is marked at last.”

The news caused much romping at the Bennet household for, as every cat knows, a handsome young tom in possession of his own territory must be in want of a mate.

So begins this retelling of Pride and Prejudice using cats instead of humans. It's an entertaining diversion for cat-loving Janeites, but it won't be for everyone. In order to appreciate the parody, readers need to be familiar with the characters and main plot points of Pride and Prejudice. Readers who pay full price for the book may be disappointed. Borrow it from a library or look for it at yard sale. ( )

Very silly but amusing Americanized recap of P&P, with rewrites of the basic plot line, incorporating allusions to the fact that the characters in this version are feline. Example: the "ball" at Netherfield is actually a BALL that the cats play with. Photos of cats with captions are liberally sprinkled throughout, as are actual passages from the original novel. A quick, incredibly light read for Austen/cat lovers only. ( )

Finally, chick lit meets kit lit! What if Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice was told from a cat's point of view? On the heels of smash hits like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and I Can Has Cheezburger, this hilarious mash-up by children's author Pamela Jane and photographer Deborah Guyol spins a fresh, quirky take on two of the things we just can't get enough of: classic cats and classic Jane. Pride and Prejudice and Kitties juxtaposes wacky photos of cats with the wicked humor of Jane Austen, and it's just in time for the 200-year anniversary of the publication of the original Pride and Prejudice. Soulful Mr. Darcy gazes at Elizabeth Bennet in fascination; hysterical Mrs. Bennet yowls that no one understands her; somnolent Mr. Hurst passes out on the sofa after dinner; arrogant Lady Catherine hisses at Elizabeth. Each photo includes a hilarious caption that goes along with the text of Pride and Prejudice, told from a feline perspective. Pride and Prejudice and Kitties is a book for cat-lovers, Austen-lovers, and people who love to laugh--in other words, just about everyone. The adorable meets the absurd! With 100 color photos of adorable cats.… (more)
