A book of things for kids to do outside when the weather is cold, wet, windy or generally not nice (so that's most of the time in the UK!). Broadly organised into sections of rainy days, after the rain, windy days, snowy days and icy days. There are lots of ideas here that kids will love, primarily because most of them are messy and hands on. Mud pie anyone? ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0711232555, Paperback)

It's raining outside - let's get out and play! Don't huddle cooped up indoors on a bad weather day: wrap up in warm clothes or waterproofs and get out of doors for some fun. In this book Jo Schofield and Fiona Danks offer myriad suggestions for wild things to do outdoors on wet, windy and snowy days, including:

- Rainy adventures (e.g. go swimming in the rain; test out your fire-making skills - can you make a fire in the rain?)
- Get creative (e.g. make a rain shadow; make an igloo; paint with natural paints made from wet mud, wet berries, wet charcoals)
- Play bad weather games (e.g. slip and slide; watermelon rugby; ice hockey)
- Experiment with weather (e.g. make a rain trap; make boats and float them on puddles; make a wind whirler out of a plastic bottle)
- Just have fun! (e.g. do a rain dance; make rain drums)

Fiona Danks and Jo Schofield are back with more wonderful ideas for fun outdoors even in the most challenging weather! Imagine - jumping in the biggest puddle you can find! - Or running barefoot and feeling squidgy mud ooze up between your toes! - Or run up the nearest hill to feel the wind try to carry you away! When it's wet, or windy or cold, there's no need to stay cooped up indoors; it's a great opportunity to rush outside for some fun. - Go on an animal hunt and find the creatures that come out in the wet. - Fly a kite in the wind and catch falling leaves. - Take your camera into a white world and see how many different icy patterns and shapes you can find. There are loads of exciting and creative things you can do in the natural world when the weather's wild. So don't wait for the sun: take this book with you and go outdoors for a wild weather adventure!… (more)
