I received this book as an ebook free from the author through LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review. Lots of twists and turns and action that starts out with the drug related murder of a back-alley prostitute that leads to a sex trafficking ring which a Chinese operative uses to enter the country illegally and an international conspiracy. This was an excellent book that I couldn’t put down. I would like to see Miken and Bobby work together in the future. ( )

I almost quit reading this crime novel a few times because frankly it was not cohesive in the beginning. Nothing made sense and the book sort of dragged at first. Towards the end it picked up and became whole. In fact the last few chapters were downright entertaining. I think with a little more practice the author could do some wonderful things with his writing. An OK read. ( )

Richard Kelley has put so much work his book that I feel bad about panning it, so I will give a bit of personal background before I get into why I did not read to the end.

I have been reading novels about China for about 50 years beginning with Pearl Buck on my grandmother's shelves and on through all sorts of stories about warriors and heroes and scholars and women. For anyone with this kind of reading background and, I believe, for many people who have read Memoirs of a Geisha, this book is more of the same, despite the detective story overlay.

I received a review copy of this book through LibraryThing.com. ( )

A Name to Die for was a fast paced read about a sex trafficking ring operating through China and into the Pacific Northwest. A Chinese operative uses the trafficking ring as a front to enter the country illegally and continue her mission.

This book is equal parts disturbing and engaging. I'll never understand the obsession with repetitively highlighting the torture the sex slaves must endure or the Detective's sex life. The point could have been made without a constant reminder of the heinous treatment of the defenseless Chinese women. And the reiteration of Larsen's sex life adds nothing to the story at all. Maybe it's meant to be a filler?

Nonetheless, the plot is engaging and draws you in. Every page provides a new turn of events. For those that enjoy crime thrillers, I would recommend this book.

**I was gifted this book for free in exchange for an honest review. My thanks to the author and/or publisher. ( )

The story is really gripping in telling about the dark side of people. Kelley has really done his research in narcotics, prostitution, and the way police work. Great Story. Set aside the time to read, Cause once started you won't be able to put it down till done. ( )
