Summary:

This book explains what temperature is and how it effects things. Through experiments different components that are effected by temperature are presented. Such as how the temperature of water changes its form.

Personal Reaction:

I thought the book explained temperature well. As a child I was always fascinated by science experiments. I even had a science experiment kit.

Classroom Extension Ideas:

1. Give the each child a clear plastic cup filled a fourth of the way with water. Then give the each child a Dixie cup filled with vegetable oil. Tell the children to pour the oil into the cup and see how the oil separates from the water, floating on top of it. Then give each child two ice cubes and tell them to drop it in the cup. Explain to the children how temperature effected the experiment.

2. Tie a rubber band to the inside of a shoe box and a paper clip to the end of the rubber band. Place the box in the front of the room where everyone can see it. Use a hair dryer to show the children how the rubber band shrinks when heated. Turn the cooling agent of the hair dryer on to show the children how the rubber band expands when cooled. ( )
