While remaining a pice which seems like it would be very motivating and interesting to students, this piece is also a very well crafted and creative work for the genre. Mostly fast moving, containing both exciting homophonic passages (a-la fanfare), it also contains canonic passages and interesting counterpoint. This piece seems like a definite winner for everybody at the grade 3 level!

AISI Level - 9/10

AQ Level - 8/10

Interest Allocation - Interesting lines in all parts

Key area: D major, G Major (modulation written in with accidentals)

~ All instruments stay in 1st Pos. (Except DB: 1/2 || brief Vln.1 3 Pos. at the end {opt?})
~ C♮ Accidentals will need to be reinforced
~ Large Leaps across strings
~ Trills

Intonation and Balance:
~ Many Unison Passages
~ Exposed Vlc/DB Soli passage in 2nd mvmt.
~ Stable string key area, not many intonation problems expected

~ Small slurs (only slur-2 and never more than 1 beat long)
~ Slurred staccato (up-ups)
~ Lifts
~ Tenuto Accents
~ All-Down Accented Strokes

Tone and Expressivity:

Rhythm & Texture:
~ 1st Mvmt is mostly hopohonic
~ 2nd Mvmt is both homophonic and polyphonic (often canonic)
~ Accents on off-beats may present some issues.
~~~~~ Tricky rhythmic Issues:
~~~~~ Many melodic passages present irregular metric accents (vis-a-vis hemiola) which will need to be taught preemptively.
~~~~~ Ties across bar lines
~ As written, no major balance issues seem probable.
~ Mostly 4/4
~ Mixed meter sections in the beginning will need to be taught (4/4 vs 3/4)
~ Accents at times give perception of irregular meter even in 4/4
Tempo: Brightly: q=104-112
Road Map: DS al Codas and Codas in each of the two movements.
