Was a frustrating read, due to the numerous poorly-thought out actions taken by multiple characters. ( )

Unbinding the Alpha is about Dmitri and Adrian and a few misunderstandings. Dmitri and Adrian are both pack alphas, but not the way we normally think of packs. In Rivers’ world, any group of shifters that live together is a pack no matter how small, and Dmitri became pack alpha because he owns the mansion that everyone lives in and they started calling him “boss”. In this world, mates are also fated, destined and cannot be denied. Yet deny is exactly what Adrian did the moment he kissed Dmitri and then ran. Since then Dmitri has been bound and determined to make him pay, and the most reasonable way is to kidnap him out of his house and beat him up. Through this process Dmitri’s younger “idiotic” brother goes missing and more misunderstandings happen.

This was a typical werewolf fated mates novella. There wasn’t a real villain or plot, just the romance between the two. Tomas (Dmitri’s younger brother) is constantly referred to as an idiot, or pup, or some form of having lack of sense, and is the cause for a few of the misunderstandings between Dmitri and Adrian. The romance was a bit unrealistic, and surprisingly not because of the fated mates thing but more of the way the two thought. They push and pull, and never quite move in sync. All in all, if you like short romances and adore the thought of having someone destined just for you, then this is a cute book. It’s a bit unfinished, but if there are more installments in the future, I hope Rivers expands her characters as well as their world.
