Empress LaBlaQue’s novels are known for having strong African-American females and equally strong male characters of European decent with blonde hair and blue-eyes. In Kennedy Kingston, Kennedy is the epitome of the strong black woman with her lithe and statuesque frame and soft afro hairstyle. She operates in a male dominated career but relishes her femininity and makes no apology for it. The perfect man for Kennedy has to be someone comfortable in his own skin and confident enough to deal with a woman that can kick ass. Julian Fredericks is of British origin and his flaxen looks attracts Kennedy but more so his self-confidence. I enjoyed the novel because the characters are funny and the story line is entertaining. Kennedy is so busy trying to be hard, she sees being soft and letting her guard down as a sign of weakness but it takes real strength to love and let someone in. Letting go and allowing herself to love for Julian makes her stronger in the end.

In Kennedy Kingston by Empress LaBlaQue, Kennedy Kingston is a private investigator, hired by a wife to tail and get evidence on her cheating husband. There is more to the case than the wife is letting on and Kennedy is even more convinced when another hotel guest also takes an interest in her target Travis Sheldon. Julian Fredricks is a guest at the hotel who claims to be there on business but Kennedy knows better. He’s showing an interest in Sheldon too and she intends to find out why. Kennedy decides to have some fun while working and Julian is onboard with that plan. Kennedy finds his Nordic good looks captivating and tries to keep it casual even though her heart is not cooperating. When the case wraps, Kennedy returns to her regular life but she can’t help missing Julian. When he shows up in her office, and comes clean about also investigating Sheldon and being totally in love with her, Kennedy is glad her hunch was correct. However, will she also follow her other hunch which tells her Julian is a good guy who will take care of her heart?
