Stealing the Bride by Yvette Hines is the first novel in the Taken Series. This contemporary, interracial romance features a black woman who goes to Indonesia on vacation and meets the man of her dreams. Kolby is white and while Leya has never dated a white man before, their attraction is instant and explosive. Leya is described as always keeping herself in control, but on vacation she lets go and ends up being rewarded for taking a chance. Kolby is an amazing character. Not only is he attractive, altruistic and generous, he’s also rich. The three novels tackle the same topic of each friend’s path to happiness but each story is enjoyable and memorable enough to be liked on its own. The story moves along quickly and while Leya and Kolby’s time together is short, their connection is very believable. The passionate scenes are many and quite entertaining. I’ve read other titles by Yvette Hines and I admire that the female characters are always strong women with a deep capacity to love.

Leya Greenwood and her best friends made a pact to take solo vacations away from their demanding careers and enjoy life. As a financial planner, Leya’s entire life is planned to every detail. It comes as quite a surprise to her friends when Leya decides to take a vacation to Indonesia with just the clothes on her back. Leya has no expectations of her trip besides having a good time and enjoying new experiences. Her first adventure begins with learning to dive and instructor Kolby Bragdon is more than willing to be her tutor. Entrepreneur Kolby Bragdon is on his annual vacation in Indonesia visiting his friend and hotel owner. He’s not interested in any romantic entanglements but if only he could get his body to override his brain. On the first night of instructions, Leya finds herself gaining a lesson in passion from Kolby that leaves her wanting more. Believing Kolby is a local gigolo, Leya enjoys their time together but has no expectations after the two weeks are over. However, Kolby is no gigolo and for him Leya is no casual fling.
