Enter a world equal parts Dexter and 50 Shades in this first, award winning erotic thriller from A.R. Torre! My life is simple, as long as I follow the rules. 1. Don't leave the apartment. 2. Never let anyone in. 3. Don't kill anyone. I've obeyed these rules for three years. But rules were made to be broken. A.R. Torre is an open pseudonym for Alessandra Torre, an award-winning New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of eleven novels. Her books primarily focus on romance and suspense, all with a strong undercurrent of sexuality. Torre has been featured in such publications as Elle and Elle UK, co-hosted Dirty Sexy Funny with Jenny McCarthy, as well as guest blogged for the Huffington Post and RT Book Reviews. She is also the Bedroom Blogger for Cosmopolitan.com. You can learn more about Alessandra on her website at www.alessandratorre.com, or you can find her on Twitter (@ReadAlessandra) or Facebook. "It's not for the faint hearted, granted, but A.R Torre does an incredible job of taking a sensitive subject matter and telling a compelling and thought provoking story... The Girl in 6E is definitely worth a peek."-Jodi Ellen Malpas, #1 New York Times and Sunday Times bestselling author "A.R. Torre's The Girl in 6E lifts the veil on the dark, erotic world of camming, but the book contains so many more surprises than that. At the novel's core, a tender heart beats, and the increasingly suspenseful pages fly by as its deepest secrets are revealed. This is a taut, edgy, thrill ride, powerfully gripping and impossible to turn away from."-David Bell, author of Never Come Back and Cemetery Girl "Dark, edgy, and thrilling in a completely unexpected way."-Lisa Renee Jones, New York Times bestselling author of The Inside Out series "An incredible debut. Gritty, unique, primal, full of angst, oddly feminist, and right up my alley. The Girl in 6E deviates from formulaic romance to deliver something truly special and worthy of praise and attention. A dark soul like me isn't often surprised by controversy or taboo subject matter, but this book delivers and I'll be reading more A.R. Torre books in the future. Kudos!"-CJ Roberts, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Dark Duet "A taut thriller unlike any suspense novel today."-The Quincy Herald-Whig "The Girl in 6E is uniquely twisted and captivates from the beginning. The premise is entirely original, as are the characters and the pacing. The main character may be a cold killer, but inside is a woman with a soul who sacrifices everything to keep from unleashing herself on the world.... Torre has written a beautifully warped thriller that will be staying with this reviewer for a long time to come."-RT Book Reviews, Top Pick! (4.5 stars)… (more)

Interesting in parts but not enough for me to want to continue the series. ( )

Whoever said that this book is the combination of 50 Shades and Dexter obviously hadn't read the book. I still have no idea where that came from. There is no sex, and no murdering.

This book was a generic slow burn thriller where we have a young woman, Deanna, who lives in her tiny apartment, making bank as a sex webcammer, but hasn't left her home in three years. She is filled with the compulsion to kill. It isn't target specific, but it is so overwhelming that she has voluntarily isolated herself from the rest of humanity. She has the compulsion but not the desire, so she understands that she can’t be around people. This compulsion started after her mother killed her entire family before killing herself -she sent Deanna to her grandparents before doing it, leaving Deanna the sole survivor of her family. Deanna is sure that this compulsion is some kind of inherited problem from her mom. Deanna is no “Dexter”.

Deanna has everything delivered to her by her regular FedEx guy who has learned the drill - knock, wait for acknowledgement, sign for the package, leave it at the doorway, and leave. This FedEx guy is always wondering about the girl in apartment 6E.

Deanna lives in an apartment building where she listens through the door at the coming and goings of her neighbors. She has an arrangement with one of them to come by nightly to lock her in the apartment and to not let her out under any circumstances until the morning. In return her neighbor is hooked up with the OxyContin that she gets prescribed to her over the phone by a doctor who in exchange has regular webcam sessions with her where he sticks things up his bum. Every first of the month you can find her neighbor hanging out in the hallway waiting for that FedEx guy to show up with the meds. Knowing that his drugs are on the line keeps him from breaking his promise to not open up the apartment early. Deanna is positive that she would kill anyone who comes in her home. She actually keeps her door unlocked during the day in the hopes that someone does try to come in and she has the excuse of “defending herself” to kill the intruder.

Deanna has two therapists she has weekly call in sessions with. One therapist she talks about her compulsion to kill, and the other one she pretty much uses to talk about her webcamming job. Neither of them really does anything for her, but she still pays the $150 an hour to talk.

This book is written so that we are given a look into the various webcam sessions, those chapters being titled by the webcammer’s user name, conversations Deanna has with her shrinks, flashbacks to her mom killing her family, POV from the FedEx guy and how he feels about the Girl in apartment 6E, Deanna’s life in general, and random quick chapters showing the POV of a little girl named “Annie”. This is the slow buildup to the “thriller”.

Every now and then we get an “Annie” chapter of a little girl. We readers can see the foreshadowing, but have yet to figure out the who/what/when/where of it. I am not going to give any more spoilers here, but let’s just say that this was no “Silence of the Lambs”, but it was enjoyable for a fairly quick read. Don’t buy the book, but get it from the local library if you must read it. There is no way you will read it twice, but you probably would read the next in the series, I just started on it.

The only “Dexter” about this book is Deana’s compulsion to kill (which she manages), she isn’t going about being some kind of serial murderer. The only “50 Shades” is the various webcamming sessions she does. Even those are pretty tame and not BDSM related. There is no actual sex or romance. There is a possible, future love interest, but nothing other than that. I feel a bit cheated because the blurb had nothing to do with the actual book, which was pretty generic, the only “gimmick” being that this girl doesn’t leave her home because of her compulsion.

Read it, don’t read it, this book isn’t really worth your time if you have other stuff you are trying to get at. However, it is mindless and draws you in. I wasn’t distracted with thoughts of other, better books while reading it, but once it was done, I was pretty annoyed that it was nothing like what it was hyped to be.

Gritty, sexually explicit, violent and dark, this one surprised me a lot. An enjoyable and very fast read. ( )

I devoured this book over several hours and all I can say HOLY ****!!! This book had twists and different viewpoints, but overall I did not get lost in the story and it held my interest throughout the book. The main character, Deanna (AKA Jessica in the cam girl world on the internet) is one big hot mess of a complicated woman. She has been through a lot and battles her own inner homicidal demons. There is a lot of cyber sex and funny dialogue with her customers, not to mention a hot delivery driver named Jeremy. I highly recommend this novel if you're looking for something different that is dark, erotic, and has crime elements in it. ( )

This was an unusual story about a woman who never leaves her apartment due to her fear of giving in to urges she has to kill people. The author does a good job of developing the character to the point that we can empathize with her, but that character development also made the story a little slow in the middle and a little predictable at the end. I assume this will be a series of stories, and I would like to see where the author takes this very unusual leading lady. ( )

Book description
My life, inside this apartment is simple. It works, as long as I follow the rules. 1. Don’t leave the apartment. Not in case of fire, not to mail a letter, not to run an errand. The door stays shut, and I stay inside. 2. Don’t get attached to clients. I take off my clothes, I stand in front of the camera, and I perform. What they want, I give. Their secrets, I keep. Everything I tell them, is a lie. 3. Don’t kill anyone. I’ve obeyed that rule for over three years. My life, inside this apartment was simple, and it worked. Then, I started breaking rules
