... me in the least. If I was coming off some non-fiction I'd probably like it better, coming off Shadow Pavilion and Nova Swing Williams doesn't compare as well.

#73: That's a thought; maybe you can polish garbage! I also just finished up Nova Swing (B+/A-), which I found much more coherent than Harrison's previous novel "Light."

Just read Nova Swing, M. John Harrison, recommend having read Light first. Nova isn't listed as a sequel, but does jump straight into the slipstream left by Light. My 'car' book right now is William Gibson, Spook Country. Feels like a regurgitated Pattern Recognition, not bad ...

... good books fail because the first level isn't accessible - M John Harrison sometimes fails in this regard (I'm thinking Nova Swing more than Light.) A "silly but fun" novel has only the one level, but still doesn't insult your intelligence. So not a Kevin J Anderson one, then. There ...

37. Nova Swing by M. John Harrison - was a bit less unconventional than other books from this author. 38. Search the Sky by Frederik Pohl and C.M. Kornbluth - proved disappointing reviews posted for both.

Finished Nova Swing which proved a bit less puzzling (in a good way) than most of the M. John Harrison I've read to date. I also read Search the Sky which was rather disappointing despite a decent underlying premise. Reviews of both have been added.

Finished the Swanwick and started Nova Swing.

... books that are shortlisted aren't shabbily written either. For example, this year's winner M. John Harrison's Nova Swing or last year's winner Geoff Ryman's Air. There is some overlap with the other awards but on the whole I think the Clarke is the award most likely to recognise ...

... own...) Elizabeth Bear (congratulations!) (Bantam Spectra) From the notebooks of Dr. Brain by Minister Faust (Del Rey) Nova Swing by M. John Harrison (Bantam Spectra) Gradisil by Adam Roberts (Pyr) Ally by Karen Traviss (Eos) Saturn Returns by Sean Williams (Ace Books)

... either love or hate: M John Harrison's Light. I thought it was an excellent novel, and while I admired the "sequel", Nova Swing, I didn't enjoy it as much.

... tin. although one story (the Kage Baker) is not space opera, and features some very unconvincing Brit characters... Nova Swing, M John Harrison - although, to be fair, I didn't enjoy this as much as Light. But it's still a damn fine novel. Sea-Kings of Mars, Leigh Brackett ...

I have Nova Swing and Spaceman Blues on my shelf ready to be read, but right now I'm reading Blindsight by Peter Watts. I'm only about 80 pages in, but I'm enjoying what I've read so far. It's my first Watts, and now I'm curious about his other works.

I've got Nova Swing by M. John Harrison on the way but it's not here yet. Also working my way thru The Year's Best Science Fiction 24th Annual Collection edited by Gardner Dozois.

Well, happy day. Our copies of Nova Swing and Gradisil have arrived. I thought the Grimwood would appear with it, but no luck. I checked out Hav and came up with something similiarly titled from 1985. I was not familiar with Jan Morris.

... World Blues and Gradisil are clearly rank outsiders. Not sure who the front runners are. Opinion seems split between Nova Swing and Oh Pure and Radiant Heart. The former may suffer from being a sequel (to Light), and the latter may suffer from the fact that for every person who ...
