Epigraph
Dedication
To Webb of Milingimbi. Missionary for fifteen years to the Aborigines of North Australia.
First words
"The White Man's Task
Our task is to learn so to understand these people (the aborigines) as to be in a
position to determine what is desirable for them, then sympathetically to help them to understand what is necessary, and finally to teach and encourage them to do these things for themselves. In whatever form education and training may be imparted, it will be clearly recognised that there is much of our complex civilisation which is undesirable, and there are many of our conventions that are of no real value. Or aim is to make these people better aboriginals rather than imitation Europeans."
