Well, I do have The End of Mr. Y and Alias Grace on my shortlist, so I think I will join in when I get to them! I have read several others, so it will be fun to see what people think of those. I may even manage to pick up one or two others (what? me buy more books? I meant THE LIBRARY! Real ...

I've read about two chapters of the end of mr y and am hooked; I can't wait to see how the plot and ideas develop. I would add my love for the time traveller's wife, so poignant and beautiful. the painted veil is one of those books that I've always meant to read, perhaps one day! I'm also ...

I have bought Black Ships, From Eden to Exile and The End of Mr. Y. I have been tempted by a few others, but when I looked at them in the store I decided not to buy them.

Ooh, ooh, I think I know this one! Is it The End Of Mr Y? I've just read it, but I can't check because I've posted it off on a bookring...

... thought it would be the perfect opportunity. I had read George Eliot (Silas Marner) at school but nothing since then. The End Of Mr Y - had seen in bookshops and been intrigued by the cover, but not enough to buy it. Then I got an ERC copy from LT... Thirteen - a review in the Guardian ...

... Accomplice at a book sale and sent it to me. Many thanks Christina! I just dug into it on the train today. Urania The End of Mr. Y has been recommended to me before and I almost bought it one day in a bookshop but I must have been trying to be more modest in my purchases.

87. Thirteen by Sebastian Beaumont. A little bit similar to The End Of Mr Y, in that it's about a parallel universe which is initially seductive but later scary, although you get to this one by driving a taxi until you're past exhaustion, rather than by imbibing homeopathic mixtures and ...

I'm getting The End of Mr Y as my first one too. Is there a time limit for the appearance of a review, as far as subsequent allocations are concerned?

#2 > I loved The End of Mr Y, but didn't request it since I'd already read it. I'm getting My Fantoms, which is the one I was hoping for - but I didn't really expect to get anything since I had one in April. So exciting!

MonkeyRobo in Early Reviewers : May books! (May 22, 2008, 7:10pm)

I've just been notified I'm getting The End of Mr Y. My first one! Hurrah, etc.

I just got The Story of a Marriage by Andrew Sean Greer. Who got The End of Mr Y by Scarlett Thomas? - I read it earlier in the year in one of those giant paperback forms that cost too much but turned out to be worth it. I'd love to know what everyone thinks of that one. What's yours ...

Scarlett Thomas is fabulous! I can't pinpoint why I like her work so much. I have only read Bright Young Things and The End of Mr Y so I have plenty of more books to read by her. There's something about her writing that just grips me.

... was dreadful, I wished I'd given up on it. I'm about to start The Blood of Flowers in the next few days and I read The End of Mr Y last year. It was actually my favourite book of 2007. ... by Peter Sheridan. I have started the last one (by accident) and had to force myself to put it down. I should be reading The end of Mr Y and I already stopped once to read Things the Grandchildren Should Know. That shouldn't be a reflection on The End of Mr Y because I am really enjoying ...

It is now called the Costa award, but when the author won it it was the Whitbread. The end of Mr. Y is a good book, but not the one I'm looking for. Another hint: you won't find this book in my catalog. "Jamie was kneeling on the stairs with a washing-up bowl of soapy water, sponging his ...

... of both men and the worlds they lived in. It's been promoted to the top of the TBR pile, ready for when I finish reading The End of Mr Y. #188 your friend sounds very kind,

I'm reading The End of Mr Y by Scarlett Thomas and it is just 452 pages long, but it is an especially tall book so it would have been longer if it had been shorter, if that makes sense. The person below me would read a book if they knew it was cursed (it's the tagline on my book).

... a reply. The book is almost entirely made up of these letters and I will be reading it as soon as I finish my current book The End of Mr Y by Scarlett Thomas, which is also really good.

The End of Mr Y is on my TBR pile. Think I'm feeling a bit put off now though. Please don't hate The Crimson Petal - I love it soooooo much it hurts when other people don't like it - though if you found it hard to get through, Under the Skin is much, much easier.

I'll third The End of Mr. Y. Where else you gonna get sordid sex, philosophy, metaphysics and thought experiment access to the Matrix between the covers of one book?

I second The End of Mr. Y. I loved that book.

The End of Mr Y by Scarlett Thomas. A fabulous book, I think it's my favourite of books read this year so far. And a curious buy. I read a review of what I supposed was a new hardback in a Sunday newspaper, but when I searched for it, I found it had been released as a small press paperback ...
