I think it's ... 33) The Witch of Portobello by Paulo Coelho - Another very mythical story from Coelho. I much preferred The Alchemist but I thought this was another inspiring read. It focuses on a young woman named Athena who attempts to find the true nature of herself through mystical experiences. In so ... Finished Alchemist by Peter James - sci-fi/horror novel about genetic engineering and satanism (groan), and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon which i found interesting and have started Let Me Call You Sweetheart by Mary Higgins Clark... 53. Meh... ... which are still relevant today. I tend not to like books which claim to provide answers to our moral dilemmas in life (The Alchemist is on my most hated books list), but this book isn't like that; the writer gently proffers her own musings, which the reader is free to take or leave.

'nother quote?
Holding onto the banister, I slowly ascended. Soon the steps gave way to a flat surface and I realized that I had reached the first-floor landing. I felt the marble walls, cold and hostile, and found the reliefs on the oak door and the aluminum ... Oh, just remembered one:
31 The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. REALLY didn't like this. At all. Felt like a children's book (to me). Forced myself to get through it, though it was short I found it deeply tedious. No harm done, at least I know not to read any more of his. ... and Border's today did not buy but sure added to my wish list.
Received American Bloomsbury Susan Cheevers The Alchemist and The Magician

Paul Coelho, whose name I always mispronouce (Portuguese, I think) and my daughter corrects me, is a good writer and his Alchemist is excellent. And my daughter is a musician, plays the clarinet, though not as much now as she'd like.

I'm thinking now that maybe it IS Coelho! Let's try the most obvious then - The Alchemist? 31. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Good - today I finished one book I'd been reading, and then finished another in its entirety. Getting back on track now! I finished The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho last night, didn't really care for it although it did have its moments. Too much blah blah and WAY too much 'the Soul of the World'! All in all I didn't really get anything out of it. It was recommended by a colleague of mine who has lost his book-recom ... Just finished The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, which was given to me by a colleague. All in all, I didn't care for it much although it did have it's moments. I thought it was a bit too much blah blah. And if he'd have mentioned 'The Soul of the World' one more time, I think I would have tossed ... ... I already read Rosemary's Baby, but that was so long ago I decided I could give it a reread.
Then a collegue gave me The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho to read. Not something I would have picked up myself, but he thought it would be just right for me. So far not a bad read at all. The Alchemist **

Another book I'd recommend is Taming Your Gremlin (Revised Edition) by Richard David Carson. This is more of a self-help book, but it's lighthearted ... EX: The Alchemist, Gulag Archipelago Vol. 1, The Year of Magical Thinking Agreed. And, I'd go as far to say that even The Alchemist is a little superfluous; I can't help feeling that Coelho milks the spiritual guru bit a little too zealously to be considered a 'real' writer.
Then again, I believe one, at least one, of his other works is already on, and in all ... The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho - it's a short and sweet little book, but when you get to the end it shows you something fundamental about life and happiness. i completely agree that Raymond Carver and the mists of avalon should be included.

Finished Diary of a Bad Year this morning, and have just started The Alchemist, which, so far, seems promising. iTunes is offering The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho free until Monday, so I took advantage of that whole free thing and downloaded it.
