Joel Peters is an ordinary singer/songwriter, living an uneventful (if slightly boring) life playing gigs and making music. Everything changes suddenly when he meets a man calling himself a wizard who gifts him with a magical gnome-like creature and asks for his help saving all of creation from a mad wizard's misused spell book. In the ensuing adventures, Joel fights demons and goblins, finds love, and travels through a ruined landscape to learn why the book seems to be meant only for him, all while struggling to learn to control a wild magic he never knew he had.… (more)

I was given this book in exchange if an honest review.

This book is very unique - in that music is the source of magic. The author seems to have a knowledge of music and utilizes that knowledge very well in this book. I found myself picking up the book every time I had a spare moment. I look forward to reading more from this author. ( )

I received this book through librarything.com.

Wolfram Donat's book SONGMASTER'S REALM is a young adult novel that is a satisfying read. I can't be as enthusiastic about it as Jennifer35k but that is mostly because the book is written too simply for my taste. I want more complex sentences and more complex emotions.

Joel is a good guitarist who has all kinds of music by heart (a rather amazing amount, actually. I hope that Mr. Donat really knows a guitarist who is competent to play all of the kinds of music used in the book.) This deep musical knowledge stands him in good stead when he is transported to another planet where by matching a composition to a need, the music makes magic: fire, ice, levitation, healing and a good cup of coffee. That's all good stuff.

Mr. Donat is clearly a talented writer and I hope he undertakes some more sophisticated work when this series is complete. ( )

In today's world there is a constant shuffle of people coming to and fro. They are either going to work, picking up kids, wondering how they are going to pay bills, or figuring out how to relax. Most people are in a sad need of a decent vacation and this story is about a musician that gets one hell of a road trip. His name is Joel and he is a talented guitarist constantly looking for work. Along with his struggle to keep a roof over his head he begins to be plagued by bizarre dreams. Visions that are so real and disturbing that he often wakes dazed and confused. One day while out at a park he runs into a strange man. A person that unravels a wild tale about magic and other realms of existence. Joel being the courteous person that he is listens to the stranger with polite indifference. However, the stranger has something different in mind. With proof and time he convinces Joel that he is a practicing magician that needs his assistance in a grave manner. Not wanting to upset the man he cautiously attempts to leave, but is gifted with a stone that turns into a little person. With his new friend he takes up the cause of the magician and enters into another realm.

From there he meets new people and learns that not only is he a gifted musician, but he is truly a good person who can make a difference in a strange world and his own. The first thing I want to say is wow! I have not had this much fun reading a book in a long time! I first of all want to say that this author is insanely talented and his writing is very professional. I loved the creativity, vividness, and color that was used throughout this book. I was never disappointed and I was constantly kept occupied by wondering what would happen next. It was easy to stay engrossed in this book and I am so happy to have received it as a gift from the author. Thank you author for letting me review this book! You are very talented and I truly hope that you continue to write. I really think that you are going to go far with stories like this!

On a side not to author. Could you please add your book to Goodreads so I can give my review on that site as well. I could not find it :( ( )
