I was looking for something spooky to read to get the ball rolling for my month of Hallowreads. I decided on a collection of Poe's stories because I'd only ever read of his what was required of me in school. Remembering that I liked his style, I thought this would be a good start to my month-long venture into the horror genre.

This was a great collection and the added spookiness of having Basil Rathbone and Vincent Price narrating the stories was fantastic. I found some new favorites and can't wait for my next Book Talk session at my local library!

I will say, the one thing that bothered me about the collection was that there were no introductions or chapter headings between stories. There were several times where there wasn't enough of a pause to realize that one story ended and another had begun. I ended up just googling the first line of each story I didn't know and keeping track that way. But I could see where that would be a big issue to someone listening to these. ( )

Not even Vincent Price could save this for me. It's official; while I enjoy some of his stories and poems, overall, I am not a fan of Poe. ( )

Great stories, but the cuts between stories was so poorly done and seemed a rush job. No titles or introductions to the stories. It felt rushed.

This was perfect!

Twenty two stories and poems by Edgar Allen Poe including many of his most famous works.

It includes all three Poe creations that are on the 1001 Books to Read Before You Die list.
The Fall of the House of Usher – new for me
The Purloined Letter (Reread)
The Pit and the Pendulum (Reread)

I can't think of any more perfect reader/performers than Vincent Prince and Basil Rathbone.
This is a keeper that I'll listen to again next year. ( )
