Looking for something to spice up your literature program, after-school activities, or playtime? As always, Caroline Feller Bauer has the answer with her third book in the Mighty Easy Motivators series, Leading Kids to Books through "Crafts." Like its predecessors in the series, ALA Bestsellers Leading Kids to Books Through Puppets (ALA, 1997) and Leading Kids to Books through Magic (ALA, 1996), this is an exciting, informational, hands-on guide to crafts for pre-school and grade school children. Bauer, a children's librarian, workshop presenter, and self-professed "Craft Queen, " introduces crafts as a way to emphasize and reinforce a story's message. The programs in her book are designed to meet two objectives: introducing children to exciting new stories and poems, and helping them create a story-related craft to take home. Included in these activities are craft supply lists, poems and stories to go along with each activity, and a list of additional books that relate to each theme. This book will inspire you and entertain your young patrons, getting them excited about related reading. Children will get so involved in their creations, they'll forget they're learning.
