I found this book in a second-hand shop, and bought it because I was so fascinated with the full page design that accompanies each fable. The ornamental designs turned out to be by Louis Sullivan from ""A System of Architectural Ornament" (1924). The fables turned out to be written by George Ade, well known in Indiana, but not so much any where else. His real job was being a writer of plays. His fables are pretty funny, although I have to admit there were a number of them that I didn't understand.
Oh, well. The Designs are really Neat! ( )

How the Overuse of Capitalization can turn a story into a Fable. Still hilarious after one hundred years. ( )
