The protagonist of this book is mourning the death of his ex-girlfriend and decides to go on a walking trip to work through his grief by himself. So naturally, he gets drunk and hooks up with a barmaid at the first hotel he stays at. The encounter itself was totally unnecessary, as was the detail used to describe it, and I decided to abandon the book. I have no patience for gratuitous sexual encounters in books, especially in mystery novels. ( )
